Advanced Powerboat Examinations
Overview: From January 2005 the Maritime Coastguard Agency and the RYA have implemented a
new examination requirement for the Advanced Powerboat Certificate. The exam will be approximately
four hours duration per candidate. This is broadly in line with other examination awards such as
the RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper Certificate, Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate etc. Individual candidates can
request an examination online at www.rya.org.uk stating
their preferred date and venue. Candidates for direct exams should provide their own boat suitable
for the examination. Otherwise contact Southampton Water Activities Centre to organise a date suitable.
where candidates may book up and use our boats to undertake the new advanced exam.

One to One Tuition
Course Overview: More and more of our customers want the freedom and flexibility of
individual one to one coaching at a time which suits them. In response to this demand SWAC is launching
a new one to one coaching service. How does it work? Just decide what course or skills training you
would like and what dates you require and we will do our best to accommodate you. At busy times of the
year we may be unable to meet your first choice of dates, so having a second choice will help. Cost is
bound to be more than a standard course but look at what you get: the boat of your choice from the wide
selection available, the undivided attention of the instructor, the advantage of specialist in depth
knowledge, the flexibility of a single day or combination of days and the ability to tailor the coaching
to meet your own needs. It may cost more but its well worth it!
