Southampton Water Activities Centre

Facilities

A purpose built centre built in 1987 situated in the heart of Southampton's historic waterfront area adjacent to Ocean Village Marina. The Centre operates on the lower reaches of the River Itchen and Southampton Water, offering watersports and outdoor activities to schools, colleges and the local community in general.

The Centre is recognised by the Royal Yachting Association for Dinghy Sailing, Powerboating, Windsurfing, Shorebased Navigation, Cruising, First Aid, Sea Survival, VHF, Diesel Engine Maintenance and Instructor Training courses.

Sailing and Operating Areas

The Centre operates on the lower reaches of the River Itchen, River Test, Southampton Water, River Hamble, Solent and surrounding harbours.

Superb Facilities and Resources

Heated lecture rooms for shorebased sessions. Changing rooms with hot showers. Access for wheel chair users to classrooms, changing rooms, showers and toilets. Experienced and highly qualified staff. Pleasant lounge facilities to relax in. Small classes so you learn more.

Sailing Boat Fleet

The Centre has modern, up to date fleets of Wayfarer Worlds, Laser Stratos, Laser Vagos, RS Fevas, Oppies, Laser Radial, Laser Picos, Laser 16 (catamaran). A variety of cruising boats are chartered as required.

Powerboat Fleet

The Centre has a superb fleet of 16 powerboats including 5 x Avon Seariders, 6 x Jeanneau Commandos, 1 x 4.55m Ribtec, 1 x 6.5m Ribtec, 2 x 7.85m Ribeye Sport and a 23' diesel launch for displacement craft work

Safety

Premises and activities comply with current Health and Safety Regulations. Lifejackets, buoyancy aids, safety craft and safety equipment are all regularly inspected and professionally maintained. All teaching staff are trained and qualified to national standards for watersports and land activities. All minibuses are regularly inspected and serviced by engineers at Southampton City Council workshops.

The Centre is registered with the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (License Number R0365) and is licenced to provide specified activities under the following headings:
Watersports
Trekking
Climbing

Notes:

All courses are non-residential. The Centre provides the boats, specialist equipment and protective clothing necessary for each course. There are pre-entry requirements for all instructor courses. Course fees include certificates and logbooks where applicable. Where courses are curtailed by adverse weather, the Centre will suggest either alternative dates or a partial or full refund according to the circumstances. Specialised courses and dates can be tailored for individuals or groups. Courses for families. Provision is made at the centre for people with disabilities and there is access for wheelchair users to ground floor classrooms, changing rooms, showers and toilets.
