RYA National Sailing Scheme
The RYA National Sailing Scheme is designed to provide a clear and achievable progression of training
courses which will help you progress from absolute beginner to developing advanced skills. The two most
popular introductory courses are Start Sailing and Basic Skills which can either be taken as two day
weekend courses or combined into a more comprehensive five day programme. Following on from these are a
selection of sailing skills modules which can be taken individually or once again as a combined course.
The sailing skills modules include: Start Racing (on request) Seamanship Skills
Performance Sailing Day Sailing Sailing with Spinnakers The aim of course structure is to offer
a much more flexible approach to learning to sail which can adapt to your individual requirements.

Taster Sailing (Mornings or Afternoons)
Course Overview: If you have never been sailing before and want to have a go before
committing yourself to a course then one of these group sessions may be just what you need to help make
a decision. This session is also a great present for a friend or loved one! You will sail in one of our
larger two person dinghies with an instructor on board and safety cover on the water. The sailing is
part instruction and part demonstration. Young people aged from 8 year old are also welcome.

Course Overview: The aim of this two day course is to offer an enjoyable introduction to
dinghy sailing where safety, fun and expert tuition are the key elements. You will also receive free RYA
Start Sailing book during the course.

Course Overview: This two day course is designed as a follow-on for those who have recently
ccompleted a Level 1 course and will progress your sailing skills to achieve the Level 2 Basic Skills
ccertificate. This course would also be suitable for those whose sailing may be a 'little rusty' and need a
refresher. An intensive skills weekend.

These two day courses are for people who have achieved the RYA Level 2 Basic Skills Certificate, or
have an equivalent level of skill and experience, to assist them in developing their sailing techniques.

Start Racing
Course Overview: Why not have a go at club racing? This course is the start line for getting
into and enjoying club racing. Sailing clubs are friendly and sociable places full of nice people (well
we would say that!) so why not get more out of your sailing and join up. We can help you understand what
it is all about. The course covers all you need to know to get around the race course safely, in good shape
and have fun.

Introduction to Day Sailing
Course Overview: Go cruising - passage planning and decision making for dinghy cruising.

One to One Tuition
Course Overview: More and more of our customers want the freedom and flexibility of
individual coaching at a time which suits them. In response to this demand SWAC is launching a one to one
coaching service. How does it work? Just decide what activity you would like from our brochure and when
you want to take part and we will do our best to accommodate you. At busy times of the year we may be
unable to meet your first choice of dates, so having a second choice will help. Cost is bound to be more
than a standard course but look at what you get: the boat of your choice from the wide selection
available, the undivided attention of the instructor, the advantage of specialist in depth knowledge,
the flexibility of a single day or combination of days and the ability to tailor the coaching to meet
your own needs. Its more expensive but it represents more one on one time with your instructor for your
money than on our standard courses!

Sailing with Spinnakers
Level: All levels
Qual: None
Using 22' Sonar keelboat, Laser Stratos, RS Vision, RS Feva, Optimists, Laser Pico,
Wayfarer World or Laser Vagos learn the basics of boat handling associated with the new breed of sailing
dinghies. Fun, excitement and simplicity is the order of the day.
Catamaran Sailing
Level: All levels
Qual: None
Do you feel the need, the need for speed? Then this is the boat for you. A fun introduction
to catamaran sailing using the Centre's Dart 16 with spinnaker.
Race Training
Level: All levels
Qual: None
Coaching in 22' Sonar keelboat, Laser Radial, Wayfarer World, Laser Stratos, RS Feva, RS
Vision, or Laser Pico and Optimists. Preparing you for your arrival on the club racing scene.

If you have RYA Dinghy sailing level 2 and would like to improve your sailing, why not come back and join us for our Club Sailing.
You can choose your own boat and practice your sailing whilst our helpfull instructors will be on hand to ensure your safety. Our
experienced staff will of course always be on hand to coach and assist you both on and off the water in
these supervised sailing sessions and arrange for racing to take place when appropriate. The emphasis
will be on recreation, relaxation and fun rather than instruction.
Level: Minimum of Adult Level 2 or Youth Stage 3 (young people 18 years and under must be accompanied by an adult)
Membership fee£30 annual membership + £8 per session for Adults and £5 under 18's
Time & days Sundays *9:30 - 12:30 and 1:30pm - 4:30pm, *Tuesdays 6:30pm - 9:00pm
